A unique hand-illustrated map capturing the energetic streets of Soho has been produced to raise money for the homeless charity, centrepoint, and is now on sale.
Our Graphic designers based in the heart of Soho Square, have painstakingly pieced together the history, architecture, culture, business and people that make up the one square mile of Soho.
Working alongside Leslie Hardcastle OBE, retired Controller of the BFI Southbank and founder member of the Soho Housing Association as well as Honorary President at the Soho Society, the team were able to uncover some of the lesser-known aspects of this remarkable London village and help bring them to life. It is this local knowledge which really captures the essence of Soho and makes the map so interesting to look at.
Graphic Communication Associate Adrian Babb said: “This is first time we’ve zoomed in on an area within a city in so much detail having produced similar award-winning maps for a number of other cities across the UK. It’s been incredibly interesting delving into the history of Soho and uncovering so many interesting facts and locations that I am sure many people who live, work and play here weren’t aware of either.”
Leslie Hardcastle OBE, added: “I congratulate the authors of this project and hope it will reach a wide audience. We are proud that the beneficiaries of sales of the map, centrepoint, started life in Soho, at St. Anne’s Church and continues to have a base in Soho.”
centrepoint provides accommodation and support to homeless people aged 16 and 25-years-old with approximately 1,200 bed spaces nationwide. It also provides specialist support, with a skills and employability team, helping young people back into education, training or employment, and also the teaching of life skills.
The hand illustrated map of Soho will be available for purchase from 9th December from Gosh Comics on Berwick Street and is also available through their website for £25. All profits raised will be donated to centrepoint.
