Landscape Architects from Planning and Design Consultancy Barton Willmore, have seen its designs for Hammerson’s £5.7 million upgrade of The Riverside at The Oracle in Reading approved by Reading Borough Council.
The designs create a sequence of spaces to maximise the riverside location and will be delivered in two phases. Phase One will include the new Pavilion and reconfiguration of The Riverside’s terrace steps to create a larger public space that will be ideal for performances, kiosks and pop-ups. Phase Two will focus on delivering enhancements across The Oracle’s wider public.
Through its design and choice of materials, such as stone, wooden timber slats and removable timber benches, people will be attracted to previously underused space encouraging them to dwell for longer periods.
Landscape Partner, John Haxworth at Barton Willmore said:
“The regeneration of The Riverside will significantly enhance The Oracle’s public realm, giving it a new identity and making it a destination in the city in its own right.”
Work has now commenced on the project.
