We were appointed by Robertson Property Ltd to design a hotel and student accommodation and seek its planning permission for the final remaining site of a wider 6.9 ha brownfield redevelopment project to create a new urban, mixed use neighbourhood at St Leonards, St Andrews, Fife.
The project is the culmination of a redevelopment that began after the site was vacated by St Leonards School over 15 years ago. Barton Willmore and the Robertson Group have been working together on the St Leonards site for eight years, securing planning permissions and preparing a Strategic Development Framework (SDF) to deliver the vision for the area. 235 dwellings and a business centre have been delivered at St Leonards to date.
The Abbey Park site was identified by Fife Council in the SDF and the adopted Local Plan identified a hotel as a key element of a mixed-use development. The architectural design, massing and material finish of the buildings has been influenced by the site’s location within the St Andrews Conservation Area.
