Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service

Barton Willmore secured planning permission on behalf of Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service for three new fire stations throughout Cheshire.

The two new fire stations are located at the end of the M56 near Mollington, Chester, at Penketh (Warrington) and are in addition to the new Fire Station and integrated Safety Centre at Lymm in Cheshire.

Project details

  • Greater connection between firefighters and the public
  • Interactive learning environment
  • Located in the Green Belt

With all three sites located within the Green Belt, the Councils agreed with the cases presented by Barton Willmore that the operational requirements of the Service constituted Very Special Circumstances.

The fire stations are designed to improve the Service’s response to emergencies as well as providing education, prevention and training programmes to the public and operational personnel.

The Lymm fire station will be fully operational and fire fighter training will be undertaken in the specialist areas. The Safety Centre will provide a series of interactive learning environments, designed to provide an exciting and dynamic education and training space in a realistic environment, and includes 360 degree cinematic training as well as a lecture theatre.
