With a storied history as a munitions manufacturing site and the origins of a well-known premiership football club, Royal Arsenal in Woolwich is now receiving new life as a mixed-use development which seamlessly combines listed structures with modern architecture.
Our Town Planners secured outline planning permission and full permission for the first phases of this mixed-use development on the historic yet redundant Royal Arsenal site in Woolwich. The scheme masterplan was reconfigured to accommodate a Crossrail station within the site which is now a key component within the site masterplan, as well as a well integrated and considered waterfront park, opening the riverside out to the new and existing community.
- 3,700 homes, 26,000 sqm of commercial and retail space
- Reconfigured to accommodate a Crossrail station within the site
- Engagement with English Heritage
- Ensured the right balance was struck between conservation and new development
With a significant number of listed buildings onsite, our planners found engagement with English Heritage to be critical, as well as clear and comprehensive mapping of the site’s history to understand where previous buildings had been located and how they were used.
This information was then used to inform and influence proposals to ensure the right balance was struck between conservation and new development.
