The 'Daily Mail'/'Mail on Sunday' required new printing press facilities in a location with substantial vehicular transport links – a three hectare vacant brownfield site in Thurrock provided a solution.
The BREEAM ‘Very Good’ facility is 16,000 sqm and employs sustainability features such as rainwater recycling for the printing process, a heat pump within the printing presses that will transfer heat in order to heat the showers within the facility, and use of recyclable materials for construction. The rest of the site will be used for ecological purposes. As many as seven newspapers per second can be produced and are then printed, folded, sorted and bundled ready for dispatch to the newsagents.
