News: 1 August 2018Regeneration of former National Grid LNG Storage site moves forward

The regeneration of 29 hectares of brownfield land that was home to gas works for nearly 100 years, including a gas storage facility since the late 1960s, is moving forward.

National Grid’s LNG Storage site at Partington, which closed before the gas towers were demolished in 2012, could soon be housing hundreds of families after our team submitted a planning application to build up to 600 homes.

The application was co-ordinated on behalf of Heath Farm LLP and National Grid to Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council. It involves building on land at Heath Farm Lane to meet the varied needs of homebuyers and residents in Partington and the wider Borough.

Heath Farm LLP is a newly-established partnership between Galliford Try Partnerships and Trafford Housing Trust that will focus on delivering high quality two, three and four-bedroom homes in a new community which integrates within the existing Partington area.

Following extensive engagement with the local community and statutory authorities, the application was submitted as part of the redevelopment plans. The hybrid application is seeking full planning permission for the clearance and remediation of the existing site with the erection of 148 homes.

Up to a further 452 homes are proposed across the remainder of the site with associated works including the creation of new public open space for residents and the local community; the hybrid application seeks outline approval for those homes.

Planning Director, Steven Grimster said: “There is a need for new housing across Trafford, and the redevelopment of this disused brownfield site will generate a number of benefits both locally and Borough-wide. The development has the potential to kick-start a significant and long-awaited transformation in Partington through the delivery of a mix of new housing alongside extensive areas of green open space to create a quality living environment.”
