The Edinburgh Landscape team secured permission from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for the design of the soft and hard landscape at a 272-home scheme, local neighbourhood centre and five-hectare park for the Neptune Group in Ballyclare.
Alongside the housing scheme they also provided landscape treatment associated with the new relief road that extend beyond the housing site boundaries.
Landscape design at the Ollar Valley development formed a crucial part of the application as the new park will form an extension to the existing Six Mile Water River Park– a large open area suitable for cross country running and informal recreation. During design process preservation of the unique landscape character of the River valley and transformation into usable, open space was the main focus.
Julia Goodwin, Landscape Associate, said: “The discharge of planning conditions for the Ollar Valley scheme heralds a major milestone in this fantastic scheme in the beautiful Six Mile Water Valley. By working alongside the developers, we have created an extension of the existing River Park as well as improved transport links for visitors and new residents.”
The new scheme also presented an opportunity to support active travel by providing safe, over 3km long off-main road cycle path. Half-length of the cycle path runs through a linear park that links to the new section of the Six Mile Water Park.
