Urban Design Director

Barry has over 20 years experience in Masterplanning and Urban Design, offering design advice to the public and private sectors ranging from Town Visioning through to a design and engagement process that has led to masterplans for new settlements. Barry undertakes a dual role of managing the Bristol Office of over 50 people pulling together multiple services as well as managing the Urban Design and Masterplanning Team in Bristol - one of the largest in the southwest. His direction has ensured a collective ethos where a strong commitment to creativity is underpinned by the need to deliver design proposals that are market facing and deliverable.

Recent experience working with developers, promoters and national housebuilders ranges from leading the design team for large residential urban extension projects to new settlements. The production of Visions, Design and Access Statements and Design Codes are all being influenced by the key issues of climate change, making healthy places and the appropriate use of technology to enrich lives.

Barry has also advised on urban regeneration sites and city centre strategies that include Mamhilad Urban Village, taking a former Nylon Factory one of the largest listed Buildings in South Wales, and transforming it into a new community with schools, local employment, housing and new parkland areas. Advising the Redcliffe and Temple Business Improvement District within Bristol City Centre including ideas on a new Vision for Victoria Street linking Temple Meads Station to the City Centre.
