Our cylindrical, timber-framed pod named ‘Little Dragon’ forms part of an eight-piece ensemble comprising a range of exciting and unique designs that reflect Welsh mythology, place and culture, all offering a variety of truly unique experiences.
Placed in two different Welsh regions in the Summer of 2017, the cabin was one of eight winners in the Epic Retreats global competition to design unique glamping units - a pioneering project for the first pop-up, portable hotel celebrating the best Wales has to offer.
Focused on creating a hikers’ retreat, which provides some of the functionality and luxury of home in the wilderness of Wales, our architecture team's vision for the 'Little Dragon' glamping cabin, draws inspiration from Wales’ mythology and industrial heritage.
The infamous Welsh Dragon is represented through the trip structure on which the cabin sits - much like a dragon’s foot, while the industrial aesthetic of coal mining in the region is reflected in the materials and form.
The cabins featured on Channel 4's 'Cabins in the Wild with Dick Strawbridge' in May 2017, which showcased all eight designs and their journeys to delivery.
