A new masterplan for the enhancement of the University of Sheffield's residential campus incorporates the halls of residence and a number of teaching sites. The overall aim was to achieve a rationalisation of the existing site.
The masterplan provides a clear framework and direction for the development of the halls of residence that captures the potential of the site. It tackles the issues that could constrain development to produce a deliverable strategy for the future. The vision set out in the masterplan is to create halls of residence that enhance and strengthen the appeal of the University both nationally and internationally.
A key aspect of the proposals is a new comprehensive network of pedestrian and cyclist routes and public transport initiatives, to encourage use of sustainable modes of transport. This reflects the desire to reduce the dependency on the private car and place the emphasis on pedestrian and cyclist priority and movement.
